Emelia Carter teaches strings for the Oldham County Schools Arts Center. Studying violin from the age of four, she has performed in the states of Washington, California and Kentucky. Her primary violin instructors include former principle 2nd of the Pittsburg Symphony Jennifer Ross, violinist Elizabeth Freeman and the late Martin Friedmann. Raised on Orcas Island in Washington State, she was coached by various artists in the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival including the Miro Quartet, Time for Three and LA Philharmonic Concertmaster Martin Chalifour. In 2019, she received a BM with Summa Cum Laude distinction from Biola University Conservatory of Music (2015-2019,) and was selected to record with The Brilliance in 2019 as part of a school collaboration and concert. She received a Master’s degree in Violin Performance at the University of Louisville after playing in the University Graduate Quartet and receiving a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (2019-2021.) While at the University of Louisville, she was selected to perform in the Violins of Hope, a series of concerts based on a private collection of Holocaust-related string instruments.

Emilia has taught at the National Orchestra Institute (2021) as part of the Peer-Mentorship Program designed to give opportunity to disadvantaged high school students. She received her Suzuki Certification from Dr. Timothy Durbin in 2021. Emilia is a founding member of the string trio Almost Classical, and plays regularly with local orchestras Paducah Symphony and Orchestra Kentucky.
